Over time women in Brazil have gained a substantial amount of property rights, however it is still hard for them to have "property right" Since the Brazillian Constitution de facto and land reform regimes made it difficult for women to acquire land. In the beginning married women could not possess land until around 1962. If the husband died and the wife became a widow, she would not inherit the land unless there were no living children or parents. It is a shame that women of Brazil have to go through so much just to establish some property. Though it is possible for women to gain land only if they were viewed as an agriculturalist in society, but if it was not inherited from their fathers then they were not deemed worthy to be in charge of productive units.
